Het was de beeldschone Russische echtgenote van Koning
It was the beautiful Russian wife of King William II who lent her name to this polder. Centuries later the beauty of Anna Paulowna is still reflected here. The flower bulb region is at its most beautiful in the spring, when the fields are coloured like bright patchwork quilts. This is the largest uninterrupted area of flower bulbs in the world!
Flowers as far as the eye can see
It is no surprise then that the bulb sector is flourishing here and that many events are organised where flowers hold sway. The famous flower days are held here each year at the end of April - beginning of May. It is an impressive sight to behold when the inhabitants decorate the village and surrounding polder with their self-made flower mosaics.
In the village centre, you can take a look in the Polder Gardens, also known as the Klein Keukenhof. This garden is situated around an old, privately inhabited country house. The garden is immaculately kept and is open to the public.
Hoenderdaell Estate, animal-friendly wildlife park
At the heart of the expansive nature reserve at Anna Paulowna you'll discover a well-kept secret: Hoenderdaell Estate. In this animal-friendly wildlife park, where retired circus lions and rescued Bulgarian brown bears spend their twilight years, animals in need are given a home with the ultimate purpose of returning them to their natural habitat. Watch a bird of prey demonstration or help feed the ring-tailed lemurs. There are always new animals to admire in the park!
